Benton House was built in 1740 by William Bigge and was occupied by the Bigge family until 1813. Benton House is of Georgian construction and design, the interior appropriately having Adams fireplaces in the lounge areas with ornamental ceilings.
The façade of the main building is a listed building which cannot be altered in any way without applying for permission to North Tyneside Planning Authority.
An extension years later was built with similar materials as the original.
The Bigge family occupied Benton House until 1831 and indeed Charles Bigge was born in Benton House.
On the 21st July, Mrs Smith sold Benton House and all its park land to Benton Park Estates Ltd., at which time the premises and all the land was leased to Benton Park Golf Club, who converted the park land into a gold course.
When Benton Conservative Club Ltd. Purchased Benton House, the purchase included the eighteenth hole. Which became a bowling green. The rest of the golf course coming under compulsory purchase, and used for housing purposes.
Over the years
The period of fifty years from the year 1949 to 1999, the running of Benton Conservative Club Ltd has been mainly on the principals as laid down in the agenda at the formation of the club in 1949.
The Principal of Chairman, Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and sub committees, essential to its smooth running, and the reasons for which the club was formed were achieved i.e. To have a political and social are in Benton along with supporting the Conservative Party.
